These programs are comprehensive short course for Local government officers, business service employees (i.e. employees who come into contact with canines) and employees within the pet industry interacting with companion animals to ensure safe work practices and meet OH & S requirements.
Training is provided by experienced and qualified instructors with more than 23 years experience in this unique field. Our services accommodate the following areas of staff training:
Initial competency training new appointees.
Initial training of existing staff engaged in animal control duties.
Refresher training and or certification of existing staff engaged in animal control.
Transition training of existing staff to animal control duties.
Ongoing Refresher training of all staff.
Risk minimisation for staff not directly involved in animal control duties
Participants learn the importance of assessing behaviour and responding accordingly, using tips and techniques tried and tested in conjunction with the appropriate use of safety equipment where applicable. Concepts of humane capture and movement/transportation are an essential part of the program giving participants an opportunity to look at various methods of moving/transporting companion animals from one location to another using their existing equipment and resources. with some of the learning outcomes including;
Knowledge of basic dog psychology.
Dog handling skills.
Awareness of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act legislation and duty of care.
Concept of safe and humane methods of animal transport.
Ability to identify common breed types and some associated behaviours.
Understanding levels of risk, by interpreting dog & cat body language.
The ability to minimise injury to oneself during a dog attack.
Basic Knowledge of various types of canine handling safety equipment.
Basic aptitude for securing aggressive dogs and subsequent transport.
